Winter 2020

our arms empty,

hearts heavy,

glad it’s ending,

Or is it?

All we want for Christmas

is our two vaccines

time and no space,

facing families

Board game playing,

the sound of real life singing

and being able to join in

without the risk

of showering carollers in covid.

The Works Christmas do

is a don’t

Panto season - postponed

Mates who’ve migrated back home

will be isolating with mum

rather than out on our annual piss up.

Bah Humbug.

I need to shake it off

conjure some Christmas cheer pronto.

It’s easy to wallow,

focus on what we’ve lost,

and long for the past.

But I don’t think it will help.

So stick your smile on under your mask,

Whack on your jazziest Christmas jumper

pop on a festive soundtrack

and dance around in your pants.

Cause the greatest gift this year

has been zooming

and it’s influence

on bottom half clothing.

Winter 2020
