Looking up

It was swift

I hardly felt it

not sure what I expected

but it was unexceptional

for something so significant.

Almost a year of covid

and with one small prick

I’m 70% protected

in a matter of weeks.

Modern day magic.

The journey to this moment

has been fraught

our lives caught

unable to move forward.

Stuck indoors

celebrations paused

humanity stripped of its chorus.

2 meter distance,

10 days isolation,

surging infection rates,

rising inpatients.

Battered by waves

bubbles keep us floating

constantly hoping

we can go back

to the way we used to be.

This is the ticket out of here

Hopefully.

My first dose of freedom

and immunity

For the final jab

I envisage

some sort of party,

a fanfare, fireworks

the whole shebang

the streets lined with crowds

cheering and shouting

“Come join the covid-free conga

and let’s dance our way through 2021!”

Things are looking up.

The end has just begun.
